Funchal, Madeira

Funchal was definitely our favorite port. Madeira is a Portugese island. It was a stunningly quaint island with cliffs and green mountains. We started together as a group and somehow all went our own direction from there. We began on a double decker bus on a tour around part of the island. It was amazing. There were grape vines on arbors off of every patio and banana trees galore. It seemed that every small property had it's own view of the ocean in the way that the homes are built into the hills. We had a snack and walked to the Teleférica, which is a cable car that climbs up the cliffs to the top of the tallest mountain on the island. It was scary, as I am afraid of heights, but so cool. So beautiful. The photos do not do it justice. It was a wonderful day and I truly hope to return someday for a longer visit.
